Elizabeth Bastian
Mrs. Bastian is committed to providing an excellent learning environment that prepares students to succeed as leaders in the school, community, and beyond. Her intention is to continue to enhance the great things that are happening at BHA, and propel the school to the next level with the valued input from staff, students, and families. She started working at BHA in January of 2022.

Mrs. Bastian earned her Bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University with a major in Elementary Education and Social Studies, and a minor in Science. She continued her education by earning a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Madonna University. Throughout her undergraduate schooling, she worked at a preschool that employed the Montessori philosophy. After graduation, her teaching career started out at an elementary school in Texas. She then returned to Michigan where she taught Middle School Science in Highland Park, and Pontiac. Mrs. Bastian has served in a leadership capacity since 2012 in various positions over the years including; Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Assistant Principal, STEM Instructional Coach, and Network Instructional Coach in which she served across three different school districts. These past experiences in teaching and leadership have allowed her a multi-layered perspective that encompasses various grade levels and demographic groups. In turn, she has learned valuable lessons as a leader. These experiences have prepared her to excel in this unique position as the Head of School of an Islamic Montessori and College Preparatory Middle School.
Mrs. Bastian’s family consists of her husband, James, and her daughter, Harper, who also attends BHA. Mrs. Bastian finds great delight in seeing her daughter grow and learn each day. In her spare time, Mrs. Bastian loves traveling, reading, and enjoying time with friends and family. She also loves to learn!

Mrs. Bastian thoroughly enjoys working with the families, staff, and children at BHA and looks forward to continuing to build and enhance the school while providing a safe, supportive, and rigorous learning environment. Helping students cultivate a positive self identity in which they are well rounded intellectually, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically is of key importance as we help to create our future leaders. Mrs. Bastian believes in a collaborative approach to learning and works hand in hand with all stakeholders: staff, students, and families.
